To stay in the loop, it is important to know the type of Telkom Network Coverage we offer in your zone (On-net and All-net coverage) and why your phone sometimes reads “Telkom-SA” and “Telkom-SA-R” (“R” means “Roaming”).

What is On-net coverage?
Telkom signal towers can be found all over the country in order to give you the internet connectivity you need to stay connected. If you live or find yourself in an area where these towers are located, you’re in what we call an ‘On-net’ zone (‘Net’ means ‘Network’).


On-Net Bundles
On-Net bundles are voice and data bundles that enable all our valued customers stay conveniently connected at affordable prices. You can use On-net bundles to connect with the world through data, voice calls, SMSs and WhatsApp. Enjoy the best connectivity no matter where you are by purchasing once-off On-Net bundles via USSD *180#, the Telkom App, our web self-service portal and on WhatsApp and stay connected.
How to identify On-Net coverage on your phone
When you’re in a Telkom on-net coverage zone, you should see “Telkom-SA” at the top of your phone screen.

What is All-Net coverage
All-Net zones are places or areas where there are no Telkom towers. This means when you’re in these areas, your phone will automatically connect to our roaming partner’s network. These are All-Net zones.


All-Net bundles
“All-Net” bundles enable customers to stay connected while outside Telkom network covered areas. These are voice and data bundles used when you are roaming on a Telkom roaming partner network. You will still be able to make calls and send messages only at a slightly pricier rate. Enjoy the best connectivity no matter where you are by purchasing once-off On-Net bundles via USSD *180#, on the Telkom App, our web self-service portal, and on WhatsApp.
How to identify On-Net coverage on your phone
You will know you’re in an All-Net Telkom coverage zone when you see “Telkom-SA-R” (R means” Roaming”) at the top of your phone screen.

On-net and All-Net Precautions
Device Settings
- On your device, you can go to “Settings” in order to activate or deactivate your “Mobile Data” depending on whether you want your device to have Internet connection or not.
- Activate or deactivate your “Data Roaming” status if you want your data bundles to only use a Telkom Only Coverage area (On-net) or when you want to work outside of a Telkom Only coverage zone (All-net).
- You can also activate or deactivate your roaming by following the prompts on USSD after dialing *180#


Check the validity of your bundle
- It is also important that you check how long it will take before your data bundle will expire to avoid your data disappearing unexpectedly.
- Check your data validity period on the SMS you received when loading your data, on the MyTelkom web Self-service portal https://selfservice.telkom.co.za/digital/products/
- Register and login to www.selfservice.telkom.co.za
- Make sure that you register on the the MyTelkom App, available on Google Play Store and iStore to use the app.
Choose the correct data bundle
- When purchasing Telkom’s Once-off or Recurring data bundles, ensure to check that you have bought the correct bundle type between On-net/Telkom Only or All-net/National coverage according to the coverage available in your area.

It is important that you check your coverage before buying any of your bundles or when you’re planning on being on the move so that you can manage your data usage and spend.
